Gerald Groves, M.D., practiced psychiatry in correctional facilities in New Jersey at the county and state levels for fifteen years until 2002. He currently works as a psychiatrist for a non-profit mental health provider in Warren County, New Jersey, and for two adolescent programs, Capital Academy and Mentors New Jersey. Capital Academy is a secure residential treatment facility for male youth, many of them adjudicated on sexual offenses. Mentors New Jersey is a community based program in which male adolescents, most with a history of sexual offenses, are placed with families and required to undergo treatment, attend programs, and work.

Dr. Groves holds a medical degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of the West Indies at Mona, Jamaica. His psychiatry residency training was completed at the University of Rochester, New York, and was followed by a fellowship in Behavior Therapy at Temple University. In the mid-1990s, Dr. Groves received a Doctor of Public Health Degree from the Harvard School of Public Health and held an Addictions Treatment and Research Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and the Veterans Administration in Philadelphia.
